A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the World Fashion Fest in Chicago during Fashion Week in the most prominent cities in the world. A curated group of international designers presented their one-of-a-kind collections in a multi-sensory fashion experience. Among the talented designers were two Argentines. Pride kicked in.
The artists
Alejandra Gougy from Cosecha Vintage, a conscious creator presented her latest collection “Regenerar”. In one word: fascinating! As the third generation of a women-led family enterprise, she has been promoting sustainability for decades. Talking to Alejandra blew my mind even more! Her philosophy is, as we say in Argentina, “todo lo que está bien” (all that is good.) This one-on-one conversation with the artist exposed the WHY behind the WHAT. My brain's right hemisphere got triggered by the interactions with the picturesque pieces and even more, with the stories behind them.

Last year I had the pleasure of enjoying Vero de la Canal’s superb magic closing the show. This year, it was Eduardo Ocantos' turn. An artist who works with noble raw materials and incorporates his artistic vision into his handmade clothing collections exquisitely. His Sarah Jessy Jones prints epitomize the fusion of art and design in a spectacular and enthralling style, closing this three-day celebration of creative talent.

The unspoken bond
Argentine souls outside of the country have this special inner force, like a magnet, that attracts one another. We connect instantly and become fast friends, as if we have known each other forever regardless of the context. We share an implicit connection of culture and costumes that are vastly missed when away, or maybe we are just too passionate about life and friends, true to our roots. So, talking to the artists was like continuing a conversation that had started sometime in a different dimension and came back seamlessly to another space in time.

The concept behind an editorial
As Cosecha Vintage's designs glided across the stage; it was love at first sight. My “Sustainable Bride”, the theme for my next styled photoshoot sprouted before my eyes: an avant-garde timeless proposal in a fast-fashion disposable trend era. The concept of “sustainability meets fashion” in the purest form, just as I imagined my sustainable bride at the center of my next editorial-styled photoshoot for January 2024. I have already talked about the stunning fairy-like paper dress from my childhood and how the concept of sustainability has run in my blood forever. So, the idea of a bride wearing an upcycled gown, 100% recycled and recyclable on her wedding day seems like the perfect choice to me.

In a world driven by profit over environmental challenges and societal issues, we find a glimmer of hope. Our annual styled photoshoot promises to be the tale of transformation, from the clothes we wear to the values we hold dear. A nontraditional take for a generation that craves high-end contemporary fashion with a vintage heart. A testament to the power of sustainable design.
